In his 10th season as the head coach at Shore Regional, Dave Porta led the Blue Devils to unprecedented success in 2018-2019.

Shore finished 25-2 and won its first Central Jersey Group 1 sectional title and Porta, who wrestled for Rutgers University head coach Scott Goodale at Jackson Memorial, is named the NJ.com Shore Conference Wrestling Coach of the Year.

With Porta in his corner, 106-pounder Jack Maida placed sixth in the NJSIAA Championships in Atlantic City.

Shore had three, state-tournament qualifiers -- Maida, Michael McGhee (145) and Al DeSantis (132). All three return next season.

Shore also had a program-record four champions in District 20 and three place winners in the Shore Conference Tournament.

In the state team tournament, Shore defeated Highland Park (62-18), Spotswood (63-12) and defending champion Point Pleasant Beach (45-19).

Shore lost to Kittatinny, 36-32, in the Group 1 semifinals.
